What is Computer and 10 types of Computer? In this world we all are surrounded with electronic devices. Even you are reading this article in your electronic device. So let’s talk about Computers.

What is Computer?

Computer is an electronic device designed for processing, storing and displaying information. We can store data ( files, images, videos and other file formats) and process them and can see the information on the screen as output after processing. Computer works on IPOS (INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT, STORE) system. Computer now days can input data, process it, produce output and store data. Computers can perform many tasks through programs accurately.

What is Computer and 10 types of Computer?

1. Analog Computer :

An Analog Computer is type of computation machine, An Analog Computer uses continuous data and physical quantities – electrical, mechanical or hydraulic quantities. can perform calculations by directly measuring and manipulating physical quantities, such as voltages or rotations. An Analog computer can be used in Flight Simulator and Scientific Research.

2. Digital Computer :

Digital Computer a problem solving device by processing info in discrete form. Digital computer process the data in the form of Binary Code. These types of computers operate on data expressed using only the two digits 0 and 1. These digits represent the letter, symbols, text and other information. Digital computer has Input – Output elements, devices like keyboards and mouse, optical scanners allow data entry.
Digital computer have 4 major functional elements

  • Input output equipment
  • Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)
  • Control Unit (CU)
  • Memory Unit (MU)

3. Hybrid Computer :

Hybrid computer is combined of Analog and Digital computers features. The Analog feature in hybrid computers acts as complex mathematical problems solver. And the Digital feature serves as the controller and handle the logical and numerical computations. Hybrid computers are good if you want both speed and precision.

4. Super Computer :

Super Computers are extremely powerful computers and technological advanced. Super computer gives the fastest high-performance. Supers computers usually have multiple CPUs, each CPU contains circuits for interpreting program instructions and executing ALU operations in sequence. Supercomputers have very large storage capacity, and also have the fast input-output capability. Supercomputers can be used in Scientific Modeling, Engineering and Business and Research.

5. Mainframe Computer :

Mainframe computers are high performance computers designed for large scale data processing. Mainframe computers boasts Abundant Memory, Parallel processors and High data input/output capacity. Large organizations works on mainframes for critical tasks like database management, transaction processing and also data analysis. Mainframe computers can handle bulk data processing and high volume financial transactions. Mainframe computers are the backbone of global finance.

6. Workstation :

Workstation computer is high performance computer. Workstations are single user focus computers. Designed for handling technical and scientific applications. Workstations are suitable for tasks that require high performance like, rendering 3D graphics, running simulations or analyzing the large datasets. Workstation commonly used for Engineering and Design, Scientific research, Media production and financial modeling.

7. Mini Computer :

Mini computer falls between the Mainframes and the Personal Computer (PC). Mini computers were popular in the 1960s and 70s for business applications because they support the mid size software and handle multiple users simultaneously. Mini computer is more powerful than personal computer and less powerful than mainframes.

8. Personal Computer :

Personal computer empowers you to create, connect and compute. Your laptop, Desktop computer, gaming laptop and ultrabooks falls under the Personal computer. Personal computer used for such tasks, word processing, internet browsing, gaming and productive tasks.

9. Embedded Computer :

Embedded computers are designed for specific tasks. They are different from general purpose computers. Embedded computers perform dedicated functions. What Embedded computers do? – Embedded computers ( embedded system) have a singular mission like managing thermostat, guiding medical instruments and controlling the industrial machinery. Embedded computers are everywhere even in your car, phones and home appliances. Embedded computer ensure the precision, reliability and efficiency.

10. Wearable Computer :
